Happy to find Hokkien Rice Bowl Cake “Wa Kueh” in Chinatown Complex Food Centre @ Smith Street. Opened for less than a month, the uncle stayed in Tainan for two years before coming back to Singapore. He fell in love with the wa kueh in Taiwan, so when he came back, he decided to test out the recipe and open a hawker stall in Chinatown. His $2 wa kueh is drenched with his own homemade minced meat mushroom sauce, with the option of adding chilli and garlic. I think there is still room for improvement (he was still testing the recipe when we visited last week) but having wa kueh sure brings back childhood memories.
